Introduce the New Material

 The story:

 

Hank in his home”

 

    Today is Hanky time in his home. He is alone at home because his mom has to go to Bank to save her money. When home alone, Hank plays with his dog called Kuma. Kuma has a brown fur, black nose, blue eyes, and strong legs.  Kuma loves to scratch the couch and it leaves scratches. Because of that, Hanky thinks he needs to cover the couch with the couch covers. At the evening, Hanky’s mom is back home. His mom bring some junk foods and three bottles of soft drink for Hanky because her mom forget to cook. Hank loves it. They eat the junk foods together while Kuma eats his own food in dog feeder.

 

Teacher gets ready to teach story telling. Teacher prepares the flashcard, diorama, and other story telling pieces.

 

Teacher stands in front of the class.

 

Teacher: Let’s start our class today!

Students: OK miss

Teacher: students look at this card. When you save your money, you go to the bank. This is a bank. (showing them a bank flashcard) Repeat after me, this is a bank.

Students: this is a bank

Teacher: What is it again students?

Students: a bank

Teacher: Ok good. Now, when you get thirsty, you have to drink a drink. So, this is a drink (showing them a drink flashcard) repeat after me students, this is a drink.

Students: this is a drink.

Teacher: What is it again students? (showing them a drink card)

Students: a drink miss

Teacher: Great! Now, when you write something in a paper and there is a mistake then you throw the paper into the trash. The paper is called junk, so this is a junk. (showing them a junk card)

Repeat after me, this is a junk.

Students: This is a junk

Teacher: Good. What is it again students? (Showing them a junk card)

(Teacher put the story telling pieces in the front of the class)

 

Teacher: Students, can you see it?

Students: Yes miss

Teacher: Do you know what this is?

Students: No miss

Ally: Miss, do you want to tell us a story?

Teacher: You are right, Ally! So it’s time for storytelling.

Students: HOORAY!!

Teacher: so students, please pay your attention! Let’s start!

The story called “Hank in his home” (Showing the diorama of storytelling)

“Today is Hank time in his home.”

So students this boy’s name is Hank (Showing the hank’s puppet) and this is his house, a green house. (Showing the house’s puppet).

Teacher: What’s the name of this boy, students?

Students: Hank miss

Teacher: Right! Next, “he is alone at home because his mom has to go to the Bank to save her money.” (Showing the puppet of hank’s mom and the bank)

“When home alone, Hank plays with his dog called Kuma.” (Showing the kuma’s puppet) students, this dog’s name is Kuma.

“Kuma has a brown fur, blue eyes, and strong legs.” (Showing all characteristics of Kuma in form of puppets) so students, what are the characteristics of Kuma?

Students: Kuma has brown fur, black nose, blue eyes, and strong legs.

Teacher: Right! Then,”Kuma loves to scratch the couch and it leaves scratches. (Showing the puppet) Because of that, Hank think he need to cover the couch with couch covers.” (Showing the puppets)

Students, what does Hank think about the couch?

Students: He thinks he needs to cover the couch.

Teacher: Good! “At the evening, Hank’s mom is back home. (Showing the puppet of mom) His mom brings some junk foods and three bottles of soft drink for Hank, (Showing the puppets of those) because her mom forget to cook. Hank loves it.”

So these are junk foods (Showing the puppets of Junk foods) and three bottles of soft drink. (Showing the puppets of three bottles of soft drink). Students, how many soft drink that hank’s mom bring?

Students: three miss

Teacher: Good! Then, “They eat junk foods together while Kuma eats his own food in dog feeder.”  (Showing the puppets of those)

So what’s food that hank and hank’s mom eat?

Students: Junk Food miss

Teacher: Yes, junk food. Then, where does Kuma eat his food?

Students: In dog feeder miss

Teacher: Good Job students! Now who wants to come to the in front of the class to take the storytelling pieces?

 

(Silent)

 

Teacher: no one?

 

(One of students named Jack raise his hand)

 

Teacher: Ok, now we have Jacky to take the storytelling pieces. Jack please come here!

 

(Jack comes to the in front of class)

 

Teacher: Jack, miss will re-tell the story and you take the storytelling pieces based on what I say, okay?

Jack: Okay miss

Teacher: The story called “Hank in his home”

“Today is Hank time in his home.”

Jack please take Hank and his home

Jack: (Taking the puppets of Hank and his house)

Teacher: Good! Next, “He is alone at home because his mom has to go to Bank to save her money.”

Jack: (Taking the puppet of mom)

Teacher: O o, you have to show the bank too, Jack.

Jack: Sorry miss

Teacher: It’s okay. Next, “When home alone, Hank plays with his dog called Kuma.”

Jack: (Taking the puppets of Hank, House, and Kuma) Is it right, miss?

Teacher: Yeah you are doing great. Then, “Kuma has a brown fur, black nose, wide eyes, blue iris, and strong legs.”

Jack: (Take Kuma and its characteristics)

Teacher: “Kuma loves to scratch the couch and it leaves scratches.” Please take the scratch one.

Jack: (Taking Kuma, the scratch, and the couch)

Teacher: “Because of that, Hank thinks he needs to cover the couch with the couch covers.”

Jack: (Taking Hank, couch and the cover)

Teacher: “At the evening, Hank’s mom is back home.”

Jack: (Taking mom, junk foods, and three bottles of soft drink)

Teacher: “They eat the junk foods together while Kuma eat his own food in dog feeder.”

Jack: (Taking Hank, mom, Kuma, and their food) Finish miss!

Teacher: Wow, you are so good Jack. This is a star sticker for you.

Ok, now students please make a group of three based on your row. Then I am going to give a storytelling piece for each of the row.

 

(Teacher gives students the storytelling pieces for each groups)

(Then, teacher re-tell the story and the students take the storytelling piece)

 

Teacher: Good job everyone! Now please collect the storytelling pieces to my table.

Students: OKAY miss

Practice 1

Crafting

Procedure of crafting activities:

·         Teacher shares the coloring paper for students.

·         Students do coloring the paper

·         Then, they cut the picture and stick it on the cartons that have given before.

·         Last, students give the name of things that they color and do.

 

At this activity teacher looks around to see her students work.

(Teacher prepares the crafting things)

(Teacher stands in front of the class)

 

Teacher: Now students please look at this picture. (Showing a bank picture without color) What is it?

Students: a bank, miss

Teacher: Yes, this is a bank, how about this one? (Showing a drink picture without color)

Students: a drink, miss

Teacher: Yes, this is a drink, then this one? (Showing a junk picture without color)

Students: a junk, miss

Teacher: Yes, these are a bank, a drink, and a junk without the color. (Showing the bank, drink, and junk pictures without colors)

Now I share this pictures randomly to you. Please take your pencil colors students.

Students: Yes miss

 

(Teacher shares the pictures randomly, the scissors, and the glue)

 

Teacher: let’s color it students.

Oh yeah, after that, you have to cut the things and stick it to the cartoon with the glue. Don’t forget to give the name of the thing you colored.

Students: Okay miss

Game

(Game: Hot seat game)

 

Procedure of the game:

·         Students make two groups.

·         There is one student of each groups that being the guessing person and sit facing the other members.

·         Teacher has a list of vocabulary words prepared which relate the final word blend /-nk/.

·         Make sure the representatives cannot see behind them.

·         Teacher starts a timer (one minute) and write the first word on the board.

·         The team must say things related to that word in order to elicit that word from their team-mate sitting in the hot seat.

·         Once the student guesses correctly, write the next word.

·         Continue until time runs out.

·         The team with the most correct guesses at the end is the winner.

·         The winners will get star stickers and the losers will get punishment; chicken dance.

Teacher: Students please make two groups since we want to play the “Hot Seat” game. Don’t forget to choose one of your friends to be the representative of your group to sit in the Hot Seat.

Students: Okay miss

 

(Choosing their representative)

 

Teacher: Please sit on the chair, the representative ones.

 

(The representatives sit in the Hot Seat)

 

Teacher: Ok students I will write a word on the board, then the team say things that relate to the word and the representative will guess the word. So the representative may not see the words on the board. Once the representative guesses correctly, I will write the next word. Continue until time runs out.

Mina: How many times that you give miss?

Teacher: Good question, Mina. I will give you one minute for each of team and each of the truth answer will get 1 point. Do you understand?

Students: Yes miss

Teacher: Ok, let’s start with team A. Be ready team.

 

(Team A is ready themselves)

 

Teacher: Ready, set, and… go!

 

(Teacher starts the timer (one minute) and writes the first word on the whiteboard)

 

(Team A start their activities)

Procedure:

·         Teacher will distribute the random puzzle to the students.

·         Students work in pair to arrange the puzzle.

Students stick the arrange puzzle to the carton.

Teacher: Ok students, it’s a crafting time!

Mina: miss, what will you do?

Teacher: Good question Mina, so students, today you have to arrange the random puzzle. (Showing the random puzzles) Then, please stick the arrange puzzle to the blank paper. (Showing the blank paper) And you work it in pair again. Do you understand students?

Students: Yes miss

Teacher: Ok I’ll distribute these to you.

Game

Game: Stone

 

Procedures:

 

·         Students make a big circle

·         Teacher will play a music and students dance

·         When the music stops, the students have to stop like a stone

·         Then, teacher will count 10 numbers

·         While that, students do not ALLOW to move

·         The students who move will be asked some questions. If the student can answer, she can get a star sticker, and if not she will get punishment. The punishment is Chicken dance

Teacher stands in front of class

Teacher: OK everyone, let’s play a game. Do you want to play a game?

Students: Yes

Teacher: All right. Now we are going to play stone game. Does someone know?

Students: No miss

Teacher: no? Okay, so first please make a big circle! Come on students. (Students make a big circle) Ok great. When the music start please dance as free as you can. Then when I stop the music you have to stand like a stone.

Lia: Like this miss?

Teacher: Yes lia like that, after that I will count 10 numbers. While counting, you do not allow to move. For someone who move will be asked some questions. If he/she can answer the question, I will give a star sticker. If not, they have to do chicken dance. Do you understand, students?

Students: Got it miss

Teacher: Prepare yourself students because if you don’t join in a group, you will get a wonderful punishment.

Students: All right miss

Then, mommy answers “Let’s go the mini-market to buy a drink.” After that, Frank and his mommy go to the market to buy a drink. In the front of mini-market, he sees a Kentucky fried chicken. “Mom, can I buy the Kentucky fried chicken?” asks Frank. “No Frank, it’s a junk food and it’s not healthy” mommy says. “Ok mam” Frank answers. After buying a drink and drinking it, Frank and mommy continue their walk to the Bank.

Game: One, two, three

 

Procedure of the game:

·         Students are asked to make a big circle.

·         The teacher will play a song then students must walk rotate the circle and clap their hand

·         When the music stops, teacher will mention a number then students should make a group which consists of members that based on the number mentioned. For the example, when teacher say “4”, students should make a circle consists of 4 members.

·         If there are students who do not get the group they will be asked some question by the teacher.

·         Those students will get a star sticker if they can answer the questions correctly, and if the answers are false, the students will get a punishment. The punishment is they have to try 5 animal voices.

·         This is done until we get 5 students who don’t get their groups.

Teacher: OK everyone, let’s play a game. Do you want to play a game?

Students: Yes

Teacher: All right. Now we are going to play one two three game. Does someone know?

Students: No miss

Teacher: no? Okay, so first please make a big circle! Come on students. Ok great. When the music start please walk around the circle and clap your hand and do that until the music stop. Next, Miss will mention a number for you then you have to make a group of the number that miss mentioned before. For the example, when miss say 4, you should make a circle group that consists of 4 members. Do you understand?

Crafting activity – word tower

 

Media:

·         Tower

·         Cartoon with the random letters

·         Scissors

·         Double tips

·         Flashcard

 

The procedure of the activity:

·         The teacher distributes all the word tower pieces to the students.

·         Each students will get different card of things with blend word –nk

·         Students cut the letter in the cartoon according to the card that they get. For example, they get “Bank” so they cut the B, A, N, and K letter.

·         After cutting it, the end of the scrap cartoons are affixed with the double tip to make a circle.

·         Then, arrange the cartoon into the tower based on the card they get.

 

Cards of:         

·         A bank

·         A junk

Teacher: That’s right. So in this activity you have to arrange the letters of thing that you get in your card. First you have to cut the letter in the cartoon. Then, you stick it with the double tip to make a circle. And last arrange it into the tower. Do you get it?

Teacher: Make sure you have double tip in your desk. If you don’t have, please tell me.

Brian: Miss, I cannot find my double tip.

Procedure:

·         Students make groups consist of 3.

·         Teacher sticks a piece of writing on the wall. Each group have a different place of the piece of writing.

·         One member of the group will be the secretary.

·         The other members must run to where their piece of writing is on the wall and read it.

·         Then, run back and dictate it to the secretary who records it.

·         Continue until one group finish, but check that they got it right.

 

 

The content of the piece of writing:

She works in the Bank. She comes home late every day. When she comes home, she always buy me a bottle of chocolate milk.

Procedure of this game:

·         Teachers writes number of sentences, using different color for each sentence.

·         Cut up the sentences so teacher has a handful of words.

·         Put each sentence into cups.

·         Students makes group consist of 3

·         The groups are given 3 cups which means they have to jumble 3 sentences.

·         After they know the sentence, they have to stick it to the paper.

·         For the first group that finish it will get star stickers and for the last group will get punishment. The punishment is penguin dance

Teacher: now students, I have many cups here and it’s time for playing game! Please make a group consist of three.

Teacher: we are going to play word jumble race. Do you know it?
